**COVID-19 UPDATE**

Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in Canterbury, and to ensure that election officials remain healthy through this election period, the Town Hall offices will be closed to the public starting tomorrow, Tuesday, October 20, 2020, through November 5, 2020. We will be conducting any necessary business either outside or remotely if possible. 

This WILL NOT affect your ability to vote in person in the Community Room on November 3, 2020. 

Please call the appropriate office to schedule an appointment to conduct any necessary business.

COVID 19 UPDATE

As of October 15, the Town of Canterbury has been identified as having a two week average daily COVID-19 case rate higher than 15 per 100,000 population. Accordingly, a Public Health Alert has been issued.

Please practice the 3 W's:

Wear your mask, Wash your hands, and Watch your distance!

To help deter community spread, please do not attend or host large gatherings.

Our actions can stem the spread of this virus and can bring the positive rate down in our town.

SEVENTH DAY BEFORE ELECTION REGISTRATION SESSION

Tuesday, October 27, 2020

Registrars’ Office

9:00 am – 8:00pm

 

In person and mail-in cut-off in ALL towns. Those whose rights as to age, citizenship or residence mature after the above date may apply in the Town Clerk’s office on a daily basis until the opening of the limited session on November 2, or such limited session.

All mail in voter registration applications must be received or post-marked by this date in order to be accepted.

This is also the deadline to register to vote using the OnlineVoter Registration System.

Persons who do not fall into a “matured rights” category may apply for admission in the Town Clerk’s office between the cut-off date and the opening of the matured rights session but such applications are not effective until the third day following the date of the election.

Final day to apply for crosstown admission. Actual approval by town of residence may occur after this date.

Last day for an elector to make a signed written request to the registrars of voters for erasure of his/her name on the registry list.

TOWN OF CANTERBURY

SAND FOR SNOW AND ICE

CONTROL BID

For The 2020-2021 SEASON

The Town of Canterbury will receive bids for supplying the Town of Canterbury with 1,000 (one thousand) TONS of Sand.

The sand shall consist of clean, hard durable and uncoated particles of quartz or other rock and shall be free of lumps of clay, soft and flaky material, loam or other detrimental material.  The sand shall contain not more than five (5%) percent of material finer than #200 sieve, using AASHTO Method T11.

The sand shall conform to the following graduation requirements:

100% passing thru a 3/8 sieve,

70% to 100% passing thru a number 4 sieve,

0% to 40% passing thru a #50 sieve,

0% to 15% passing thru a #100 sieve,

Less than 5% passing thru a #200 sieve.

In no case shall sand be used that contains frozen lumps or other detrimental material.

Each quotation shall:

1.       Guarantee up 6,650 TONS of material at bid price until June 30, 2021.

2.       Material shall be delivered to the Town Garage site at 111 Kinne Road by 12/29/2020.

3.       The vendor shall certify the number of tons delivered to site.

4.       All bids must include certified test results of material to be supplied. If questions of quality should arrive, it shall be at the expense of vendor to test product for compliance.

All bids must be submitted to the Office of Selectmen, 1 Municipal Drive, Canterbury, CT 06331 on or before 11:00 A.M. on 10/28/2020 in a sealed envelope clearly marked “Sand Bid”.  Bids will be opened on 10/28/2020 at 12:00 P.M. (noon) at the Town Hall. The Public Works Foreman and/or First Selectman reserve the right to reject any and all bids in the best interest of the Town.

ATTENTION CANTERBURY VOTERS

Information for the November 3, 2020 Election

Due to COVID-19, all voters MAY vote by absentee ballot for the November 3 election.  The polls will be open as normal (6 AM TO 8 PM) with appropriate safety procedures in place to keeps all voters and workers safe.

The Secretary of the State of Connecticut will be sending absentee ballot APPLICATIONS to all voters in mid-September. If you wish to vote by absentee ballot, you must return your APPLICATION to the Canterbury Town Clerk after you receive it, as soon as possible.  The address will be on the application. 

BALLOTS WILL BE MAILED TO YOU BY THE TOWN CLERK’S OFFICE, BUT CANNOT BE ISSUED UNTIL OCTOBER 2, PER STATE STATUTE. 

ALL ELECTION MAIL WILL BE HANDLED BY THE CANTERBURY POST OFFICE AND WILL NOT BE SENT TO HARTFORD FOR SORTING.

ALL BALLOTS MUST BE RETURNED TO THE TOWN HALL BY TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, IN ORDER TO COUNT IN THIS ELECTION.

THERE IS A BALLOT DROP BOX LOCATED TO THE LEFT OF THE FRONT DOOR AT THE TOWN HALL.  ALL APPLICATIONS AND BALLOTS CAN BE RETURNED TO THAT DROP BOX.  THIS IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE OPTION TO ENSURE THAT YOUR BALLOT IS COUNTED.

Real estate and motor vehicle tax bills have been sent out. For your convenience and safety, there are various ways to pay your taxes.

*Send your payment(s) by US mail to Canterbury Tax Collector, P.O. Box 27, Canterbury, CT 06331. Make checks payable to Town of Canterbury and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope to have a receipt sent back to you.

*Put your payment(s) in the drop box located at the front of the Town Hall building. It is checked twice daily. Make checks payable to Town of Canterbury and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope to have a receipt sent back to you.

*Pay online. Click “View or Pay Your Tax Bill” on the home page of theTown of Canterbury website.

Starting Monday, July 13th, the Tax Collector’s office will be open to receive tax payments. There will be one-way traffic allowed in the building, entering through the front main entrance and exiting out the side door. Keeping at least 6 feet distance and wearing a mask is required.
