This is a reminder that the due date for the 2nd installment of the 2019 Grand List real estate taxes and the 2019 supplemental motor vehicle taxes is January 1, 2021. The Town again adopted a resolution allowing for a 90-day grace period for all bills due 1/1/2021, in accordance with the Dec. 16 Executive Order 9R.    Bills due and payable on January 1, 2021 will become delinquent on April 1, 2021, with an interest rate of 1½% per month on the unpaid balance from the due date. The minimum interest charge is $2.00.  There is a lock-box for tax payments located at the front of the building.  If you would like a receipt mailed to you, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope. You may pay your bill and get your payment receipt at  Search by last name and first initial.

Beginning Monday, November 9, 2020, the Town Hall Offices will be conducting business during their normal business hours. However, business will continue to be conducted outside or remotely whenever possible. Phone numbers for respective offices are posted on the front and side doors, as well as listed below. Employees are in their offices and are happy to help you. ONLY THE INSIDE OF THE BUILDING IS CLOSED TO PUBLIC FOOT TRAFFIC. We ARE NOT closed for business.

As of October 15, the Town of Canterbury has been identified as having a two week average daily COVID-19 case rate higher than 15 per 100,000 population. Accordingly, a Public Health Alert has been issued.

Real estate and motor vehicle tax bills have been sent out. For your convenience and safety, there are various ways to pay your taxes.

*Send your payment(s) by US mail to Canterbury Tax Collector, P.O. Box 27, Canterbury, CT 06331. Make checks payable to Town of Canterbury and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope to have a receipt sent back to you.

*Put your payment(s) in the drop box located at the front of the Town Hall building. It is checked twice daily. Make checks payable to Town of Canterbury and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope to have a receipt sent back to you.

*Pay online. Click “View or Pay Your Tax Bill” on the home page of theTown of Canterbury website.
