For the convenience of our taxpayers, the Town recently installed a secure lock box for tax payments. This will help us implement the safety protocols needed to maintain social distancing and reduce the number of people coming into the Town Hall during busy tax collection periods. We want to give you an alternative way to submit your payment without having to use the postal system. The box is located at the front of the building and it will be checked twice a day.

Tax Collector

As of June 22, the Board of Finance has not passed a budget. It is possible that the budget may get passed on June 24.  If it does, it will take about two to three weeks to get the tax bills printed andready for mailing.  If all goes well, we will mail the bills out in mid-July. Because of the COVID pandemic, the Board of Selectmen adopted a resolution allowing for a 90-day grace pay period, (rather than the normal 30-day one) for all bills due on July 1, 2020.

This means that the last day to pay taxes without incurring interest will be October 1, 2020.

**2020-2021 Municipal Budget**

The process of drafting our municipal budget for the next fiscal year is underway. Due to Executive Order 7HH, the public hearing, annual town meeting, town meeting, and referendum is required to be replaced with meetings conducted with strict adherance to a social distancing mandate which to not allow for actual public gatherings. For Canterbury that means utilization of all digital methods available for public input and comment during the process. We will be using the Zoom conferencing service much as the rest of our town and many others.
